Q - Is Massage Therapy truly beneficial to health and well-being or merely a self-indulgent pamper session?
A - Massage is a healing tool that has been around for thousands of years in many cultures. Touching is a natural human reaction to pain and stress. Healers throughout time and throughout the world have instinctually and independently developed a wide range of therapeutic techniques using touch. Many are still in use today, and with good reason. We now have scientific proof of the benefits of massage, benefits ranging from treating chronic diseases and injuries to alleviating the growing tensions of our modern lifestyles.

The effect of massage is not limited to the muscles and nervous system. Some of the other benefits are:

o                         Increases circulation, allowing the body to pump more oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs including the skin.

o                         Stimulates the lymph flow, the body's natural defense system, against toxic invaders.

o                         Increases joint flexibility.

o                         Improves range of motion and decreases discomfort for patients with low back pain.

o                         Releases endorphins, a neuro-chemical transmitter and the body's natural painkiller.

Q - What is the procedure for first time massage clients?
A - First time massage clients are asked to arrive about 10 minutes earlier than the scheduled appointment time to fill out a brief medical history form. Your massage therapist will review information and discuss any potential problems.

You will be left to undress in private and lie down on a comfortably padded massage table. You will always be covered with a sheet, and a light blanket if necessary. For a full-body massage most clients remove all clothing except underwear.

Q - Why is it necessary to give my medical history to a massage therapist?
A - A medical history helps identify areas that need special attention. There are some medical conditions that may prohibit massage therapy. Certain skin conditions, acute injury, and some circulatory problems are among the few.

Q - Will my medical history be kept confidential?
A - Yes, the information you provide for your massage therapist will remain confidential and be placed in a private file.

Q - How often should I get a massage?
A - Your personal situation or medical condition will determine the frequency of massage. During stressful periods, a massage can soothe and relax. The cumulative effects of weekly massage can enhance your overall health and well-being.

Q - Does massage therapy hurt or cause pain?
A - Swedish massage, a soft, soothing relaxation massage should not hurt or cause any pain. However, when muscles are extremely tight and sore, you may experience some discomfort at first.

Any therapy that addresses soft tissue or muscular discomfort (such as deep tissue or trigger point) may be uncomfortable when treating irritated areas. Any actual discomfort comes from the irritated tissue not from the work itself.

Always feel free to inform therapist if pressure is too hard or too little.

Q - During a massage, can I talk to the therapist?
A - Yes, you may talk as much or as little as you like. Some clients talk to release stress while others zone out and drift into a deeper state of relaxation. A discerning massage therapist will allow the client to set the guidelines for conversation or quiet time.

Q - Can I eat before a massage treatment?
A - After eating your body is focused on digestion. Your massage will likely be more pleasant if you refrain from eating a big meal prior to treatment.

Q - Can I purchase gift certificate from you?
A - Just call the salon at 757-539-0351. We can either send it to you or the recipient. It is good for one year and may be transferred to another person.

Q - What is the cancellation policy for massage?
A - We require a 24 hour notice to cancel. Preparation goes into a massage session and several other clients may have requested the same spot reserved by you.
